BEFORE YOU PURCHASE

Singapore’s Productivity Solutions Grant (PSG) has stopped accepting new applications. Its replacement, the EDGE Grant, launched on 30 September 2026, bringing several business support schemes under one framework.
But here is something every F&B business owner should know: EDGE Grant and the Energy Efficiency Grant (EEG) are different schemes. They support different activities, and their funding rates and eligibility rules are not interchangeable.
If you are looking for commercial fridges, freezers, blast chillers, ice makers, combi ovens or other kitchen equipment in Singapore, this guide explains what has changed, which equipment categories may qualify, and what to check before making a purchase.
The Big Change: PSG Is Closed to New Applications, EDGE Is Now Available
-
29 September 2026: The Productivity Solutions Grant (PSG), Enterprise Development Grant (EDG) and Market Readiness Assistance (MRA) ceased accepting new applications.
-
30 September 2026: The new EDGE Grant launched for eligible new projects.
Enterprise Singapore combined these former schemes into one grant framework so businesses can find support based on their intended activities.
Importantly, existing PSG, EDG and MRA applications submitted before 30 September 2026 are not automatically cancelled. They continue to be assessed under their original scheme requirements, and approved projects can proceed to completion and claims.
What Is the EDGE Grant in Singapore?
The EDGE Grant is a government business support programme administered by Enterprise Singapore. It brings together support for productivity, automation, digitalisation, capability development, sustainability and overseas expansion.
For example, an F&B business may be interested in:
-
Adopting suitable automated kitchen equipment
-
Improving food preparation and production processes
-
Integrating front-of-house and back-of-house operations
-
Investing in eligible productivity solutions
-
Undertaking broader business transformation projects
How Much Funding Can Businesses Get Under EDGE Grant?
Under the EDGE Grant, eligible SMEs can generally receive funding support of up to 50%, while non-SMEs can receive up to 30%. However, businesses undertaking eligible internationalisation and sustainability activities may qualify for higher funding support of up to 70% for SMEs and 50% for non-SMEs. These percentages represent the maximum funding available and are not guaranteed reimbursements.
What Are the EDGE Grant Funding Caps?
Businesses can receive up to S$100,000 in total grant support annually across eligible activities. Of this amount, up to S$30,000 can be allocated to single-function digital solutions, integrated enterprise systems and pre-scoped equipment. The annual funding period runs from 1 April to 31 March.
Individual activities may also be subject to specific cost ceilings and grant limits. For businesses purchasing commercial kitchen equipment, the actual funding available will depend on the equipment category and applicable eligibility criteria rather than the headline funding percentage.
Which Commercial Kitchen Equipment Can Qualify Under EDGE Grant?
Enterprise Singapore also publishes a list of pre-scoped equipment activities for the Food & Beverages (F&B) sector to help businesses improve operational efficiency and productivity. These include blast chillers for rapidly cooling prepared food, blast freezers for quickly freezing food products, and combi ovens that combine convection, steam and combination cooking functions. Other equipment includes automated dishwashers to reduce manual washing, automated deep fryers to streamline frying processes, automated noodle boilers to improve noodle preparation, and automated tray sealers to enhance packaged food production. Dough sheeters are also included to support more consistent and efficient dough preparation.
Example 1: Blast Chillers Under EDGE Grant
A blast chiller is not the same as an ordinary storage chiller. It rapidly lowers the temperature of cooked food, helping food businesses manage cooling processes and preserve product quality.
Enterprise Singapore’s EDGE blast chiller activity provides:
-
Up to 50% support for eligible SMEs, capped at S$15,000
-
An activity cost ceiling of S$30,000
-
Specific mandatory equipment requirements
Mandatory specifications include the ability to reduce cooked food temperature from 70°C to 3°C or below within 90 minutes, with a minimum capacity of 5 GN 1/1. A model must satisfy the published requirements to qualify for consideration.
Example 2: Combi Ovens Under EDGE Grant
A commercial combi oven supports several cooking methods within one machine, including convection and steam. The published EDGE combi oven activity has its own support cap, cost ceiling and mandatory specifications; buyers should check the live activity page for the current figures and exact capacity requirements.
This can be relevant to eligible restaurants, bakeries, catering businesses and commercial food production operations looking to improve cooking workflows.
What About Ordinary Commercial Chillers, Freezers and Ice Makers?

A standard commercial refrigerator, upright freezer, display chiller or ice-making machine should not automatically be advertised as EDGE Grant eligible simply because it is used in an F&B kitchen.
Eligibility must be checked against the actual EDGE activity and its requirements. For businesses purchasing energy-efficient commercial refrigerators, a different scheme may be more relevant: the Energy Efficiency Grant (EEG).
EDGE Grant vs EEG: Which Grant Applies to Commercial Fridges and Freezers?

The Energy Efficiency Grant (EEG) remains available separately from the EDGE Grant, with both schemes supporting different business needs. While the EDGE Grant focuses on improving business capabilities, productivity and other eligible activities, the EEG specifically supports businesses investing in approved energy-efficient equipment, including certain commercial refrigerators and freezers used in the food services sector.
Under the EDGE Grant, eligible SMEs can generally receive up to 50% funding support for qualifying activities. In comparison, the EEG offers eligible SMEs up to 70% funding support for approved Base Tier energy-efficient equipment until 31 March 2027, subject to the scheme's conditions. The EEG Base Tier also has a maximum grant cap of S$30,000 per company.
However, not all commercial refrigerators and freezers qualify for funding under either scheme. For the EEG, businesses must select equipment models from the approved supported-equipment list. Eligible food services operators must also meet specific requirements, including holding a valid Singapore Food Agency (SFA) licence, having a qualifying Singapore Standard Industrial Classification (SSIC) code, meeting minimum local shareholding requirements and satisfying other eligibility conditions.
Applications for both grants are submitted through the Business Grants Portal (BGP), with businesses required to select the relevant grant and qualifying activity.
EDGE IS NOT EEG
A commercial fridge that qualifies for EEG does not automatically qualify for EDGE, and an EDGE-supported kitchen machine does not automatically qualify for EEG

At Superior Kitchen Equipment, customers can explore commercial refrigerators, chillers and freezers, including models featured in the company’s Energy Efficiency Grant equipment collection. Confirm the exact model against the current official supported-equipment list before treating it as grant eligible.
Who Is Eligible to Apply for EDGE Grant?
Enterprise Singapore’s general EDGE requirements include:
-
Being a business entity registered in Singapore
-
Having at least 30% Singaporean and/or Singapore Permanent Resident ownership
-
Meeting the eligibility conditions for the selected activity
Additional rules may apply. Certain pre-scoped equipment activities exclude home-based businesses, require equipment to be new and used in Singapore, and prohibit seeking support for a solution previously supported under a grant.
Meeting the general business criteria alone does not guarantee approval. The equipment, project purpose, costs and required deliverables must also qualify.
How to Apply for EDGE Grant for Commercial Kitchen Equipment
If you are planning to purchase equipment for your restaurant, café, bakery or food production kitchen, follow these steps before committing to the purchase.
Step 1: Identify the Equipment You Actually Need
Start with your operational requirements: daily production volume, kitchen space, electrical requirements, rapid chilling versus storage refrigeration, and whether automation would reduce repetitive work. Choosing the right equipment should come before choosing the grant.
Step 2: Find the Relevant EDGE Activity
Visit Enterprise Singapore’s official EDGE Grant website and find the activity matching your intended purchase. Review its mandatory specifications, eligibility rules, funding limits and supported costs. If no suitable EDGE activity exists, check whether another scheme is relevant.
Step 3: Obtain a Detailed Equipment Quotation
Request a quotation showing the correct model and relevant specifications. For pre-scoped equipment activities, documents may include a vendor quotation, product brochure, technical specifications, expected cost-saving projections and other activity-specific materials.
Step 4: Submit Your Application Before Paying a Deposit
Enterprise Singapore does not support retrospective EDGE applications where work has already started or payment or deposits were made before submission. The applicant company must submit through the Business Grants Portal using authorised Corppass access. Suppliers cannot submit or manage applications on the company’s behalf.
Step 5: Wait for the Outcome or Understand the Risk
Certain purchases may be made after application submission but before approval. However, submission does not guarantee approval. If you proceed early, your business bears the financial risk if the application is rejected.
Step 6: Complete the Approved Project
If approved, the Letter of Offer sets out the grant amount, conditions, project period and deliverables. Equipment projects may require proof of installation and deployment at the declared location.
Step 7: Submit Your Claim
EDGE funding is generally paid on a reimbursement basis. Complete the approved activity, pay the project expenses in full, then submit the claim and supporting documentation by the required deadline.
Before Buying: Five Questions Every F&B Owner Should Ask
-
Does the equipment suit my operations? A machine that is too small, too large or unsuitable for your workflow can create problems even if funding is available.
-
Does the exact model meet the grant specifications? A product category alone is not proof of eligibility.
-
What is the full cost? Compare equipment pricing, delivery, installation, electricity consumption and ongoing maintenance. Some costs may not be grant-supported.
-
What happens if the grant is rejected? Ensure your business can manage the financial commitment.
-
Have I checked the latest official requirements? Grant activities, supported models and eligibility rules can change.
For buyers comparing suppliers, request detailed quotations and specifications rather than relying only on advertised grant percentages.
Frequently Asked Questions About EDGE Grant Singapore
Is PSG still available in Singapore in 2026?
PSG stopped accepting new applications after 29 September 2026. New eligible projects should be assessed under EDGE from 30 September 2026. Existing PSG applications and approved projects submitted before the transition continue under the relevant original scheme requirements.
Did EDGE replace PSG, EDG and MRA?
Yes. Enterprise Singapore consolidated these three schemes under the EDGE framework for new applications.
Does EDGE Grant provide 70% funding for kitchen equipment?
Not automatically. General eligible EDGE activities offer up to 50% support for SMEs, while higher rates of up to 70% apply to specified internationalisation and sustainability activities. Individual equipment activities have their own published rates.
Can I get 70% funding for commercial fridges in Singapore?
Potentially, under the separate Energy Efficiency Grant (EEG), if your business and the exact equipment model satisfy its requirements. EEG Base Tier currently provides up to 70% support for eligible SMEs purchasing approved energy-efficient equipment, subject to conditions.
Are ice makers eligible for EDGE Grant?
Do not assume a commercial ice maker qualifies simply because it is used by a restaurant or café. Check the official EDGE activity list and specifications. A supplier’s product listing alone does not establish eligibility.
Can a new restaurant apply for EDGE Grant?
Eligibility depends on the selected activity and the company’s circumstances. Some activities require an operating business and a valid deployment location; new businesses should check the specific activity rules before committing to equipment.
Can my equipment supplier submit the EDGE application for me?
No. The applicant must submit through the Business Grants Portal using authorised company personnel. A supplier can provide quotations and specifications but must not submit or manage the application.
Can I claim both EDGE and EEG for the same equipment purchase?
Businesses should not assume they can combine grants for the same expense. Enterprise Singapore prohibits duplicate grant support for the same eligible costs under EDGE. Check the scheme conditions before applying.
When should I apply for EDGE Grant?
Before starting the project or making any payment or deposit to the supplier. Retrospective applications are not supported.
